Bard Faces Thousands Of IVC Filter Lawsuits Over The Product's Unique Inherent Design Defects

Bard IVC Filter Lawsuits

Not all IVC filters are made the same as some carry inherent product design defects and others work perfectly well

Wednesday, February 2, 2022 - So far it looks like the Bard IVC filters are the most defective as more than $7 million has been awarded to plaintiffs that suffered from the device malfunctioning. More than 8000 plaintiffs allege to have suffered from the Bard IVC device fracturing, perforating the IVC, tilting, and migrating to become lodged in a major organ like the lungs or heart and causing, pulmonary embolisms (PE), strokes, heart attack, deep venous thrombosis, and even death. People that have been injured by the Defective Bard IVC filter have filed Bard IVC filter lawsuits against Bard for bringing to market an inherently defective medical device. According to HealthImaging.com (HI), Bard spokespersons continue to defend the life-saving features of their spider-like medical device and that they are operating within the guidelines established by the FDA. HI reports, "Our IVC filter products are cleared for use by [the] FDA and continue to offer lifesaving benefits that have helped tens of thousands of patients for more than 15 years," Becton Dickinson spokesman Troy Kirkpatrick told the Dallas Morning News on Monday. "These facts are reflected in the many Bard IVC filter cases in which courts and juries have ruled in the company's favor." The key to reducing the odds of an IVC filter breaking and migrating is to make sure and have the device removed within the 60 days after insertion as the Food and Drug Administration recommends. According to the FDA, "While some IVC filters are left in place permanently, the FDA issued a safety communication in 2014 based on reports of adverse events associated with IVC filters and recommended that implanting physicians consider removing the filter as soon as blood clots are no longer a risk for the patient."

Bard IVC filters effectively prevent life-threatening pulmonary embolism from blood clots that may form during and after surgery, and after a traumatic injury. Adverse event reports complain that the Bard IVC filter complications are more likely than other brands to cause serious injuries and death. Bard Medical executives are suspected of being made aware of IVC filter malfunctions for over a decade and covered up what they knew. Bard IVC filter malfunctions include strut fracture, IVC perforation, and migration throughout the body. Reports of cardiac arrest, vein perforation, blockages, myocardial infarction, and death have been made to the company and the FDA. It is not uncommon for a person suffering from a defective Bard IVC filter to need multiple surgeries to attempt to retrieve the pieces of the fractured medical device. Patients that have suffered the ill effects of the Bard IVC filter are consulting with Bard IVC filter lawyers to see if they have a case against the device's manufacturers for bringing a faulty medical device to market.
